  Are you happier out of the org?

  hi everyone i was just wondering if those of you that have left the org for whatever reason, have found your'e much happier than when you were in it?probably a daft question but i tried to talk to a friend about how i was feeling about a few things and why i don't go to meetings and she said would i really be any happier out than in?it just got me thinking about why i joined in the first place, because i was lonely and down, although i still am several years later it seems!have you found life better on the outside?did you feel a sense of freedom or was it really hard to adjust?when i try to explain what i find hard in the religion they can always say something back that then makes me think i was wrong in the first place and it is the truth after all - aagh!

  Its a bit like the film the Matrix, life outside isnt easier in lots of ways at first, you have a big learning curve trying to find who you are and what you want, find new friends etc. Some want to return to that illusion like in the film, because you don't have to think too much. For me i'm still having feelings of anger towards the lies, I feel lonely myself in my everyday life, and yet i've now met some great people on here, which helps loads. But I could never go back, now I know the reality. As someone said Its better to be awake than asleep in someone else's dream. Life outside isnt easy to adapt to but its very possible and talking here helps a lot. Welcome to you and your new life.

  Dis-association letter

  ok, i have thought about it too long and hard and came to the conclusion that this really is something that i want to do!

  i don't know exactly how to write my letter to dis-associate myself and exactly who i should send it too.

  i was readding somethings before that had talked about people sending a copy to there old friends to let them know as well.

  I think it would be very healthy to write your letter - its something I wished I had done myself, only did mine verbally to an Elder. I would agree with other comments here, its up to you what you want to do, they have no power over you at all (its only the brain washing that tells you they do). Spell it out what you want to them, and be strong and don't give them an inch.

  my sister was probably one of the most loyal witnesses out there.

  all her responses were pulled right from the watchtower thinking, "sorry you feel that way, but i believe jehovah's witnesses are god's people.

  " well in time we came to an agreement, "you do not bring up your negative thoughts on the religion, and i will not try to get you to come back to the religion.

  I believe it is a very good thing when someone has a break from the meetings - you stop the constant propagander entering your mind. In time the urgency and guilt trips that are constantly laid on you wear off as you're no longer reinforcing it by attending. Its funny how once you move outside of the 'ideal' that you see things that were not apparant to you before, such as extra rules above and beyond the biblical, men on power trips, double standards, politics, lack of love etc

  Finding people you have lost touch with

  there have been many people (witnesses) that have come and gone over the years of my life in the witnesses.

  some were disfellowshipped or faded away, i'd love to be able to find some of them again.

  i've looked at friends reunited and can see one of my old friends and am making enquiry's, but there are others.

I've looked at friends reunited and can see one of my old friends and am making enquiry's, but there are others. Has any of you been successful at tracking down old friends?

  Had mine posted last night while I was at work - its from the local congregation (stamped) rather than where I used to go, so must be part of their campaign. I was saying about it to my ex (still a JW) did she think there will be some special insite about the end? She kinda had a knowing look in her eye but declined to comment, although she said i'd be regretting it when it did come! I laughed that they have been saying this for over 120 years and its still not here, and that she'll be an old lady and it still wont have arrived.

  From few friends to more than I can handle!!!!

  i guess i'm still on a high from the bbq at the weekend, i really feel i've made some new friends, so thanks to all who helped and encouraged me go.

  although we might not all live near each other, the beauty of the internet makes friendships possible over long distance.

  if anyone has seen the the topic on the bbq and hasn't been before, i would say don't hesitate to go to a meet up like it.

Although we might not all live near each other, the beauty of the internet makes friendships possible over long distance. If anyone has seen the the topic on the BBQ and hasn't been before, I would say don't hesitate to go to a meet up like it. You really do feel you have a connection to those who attend. Although our lives may have gone down different paths, we all have this in common. I'm so glad I went and met so many great people, it will only grow as more and more come along and friendships deepen.

  i don't know if its coming down from the impossible high of the aposta bbq weekend or just hormones but i feel horrible today.

  all last night i tossed and turned unable to sleep - i felt like i was going through a series of hallucinations rather than dreams.

  i kept hearing voices - really sharp right up in my ear.

  I hear what your saying I get feelings like that and feel starved of physical contact, you feel that low that you wonder whats the point. I think you've done the right thing and spoken up about it. Communication for me is one of the biggest helps to get through our feelings. Its true you have many things to be greatful for and that can help get some perspective regarding our own problems. But the reality is we do get down - whether we're stinking rich and have loads of friends and family round us, or we live in poverty, wondering where our next meal comes from, or somewhere in the middle. Its only what we get down about that changes. And you know its ok to be down, as long as you don't sink down too far it can be good cause it makes you appreciate the high's even more! The thing is people do see things in us that we cant always see, I for one found you very helpful with the BBQ arrangements and you made me laugh with your witty comments - now to have the power to make someone laugh...well what better thing can you do?

  A question about the ladies

  ok firstly i have nothing against ladies, especially any of the lovely ones here - some of whom i recently had the pleasure of meeting in the flesh at englishmans bbq, and i must say what a great group of girls we have here!.

  anyway back to my question, a number of times i have noticed that some women seem to go quiet on you rather than tell you what they feel.

  almost like pushing you away because they can't speak about whatever it is.

  You are right men are just as capable of that, i know it can be hard to face up to something that affects someone elses happiness. I know I have been that way myself in the past, so not condemning anyone.

  How "old" is the oldest person who lived in your family?

  i was just wondering how old can a person live.

  my grandmother lived up to 97, almost 98. .

  those born in 1914 are 92 years old and some are still alive.. i guess that no one lived over 120 years since the flood.. how "old" is the oldest person who lived in your family?

  the oldest verifiably recorded person was Jeanne Calment who lived 122 years and 164 days. She was born February 21,1875 and died August 4,1997

  How about AFTER the flood, doesn' the bible say 120 years was the oldest age recorded?

  I was under the impression that the flood happened before 1875? But i could be wrong CS 101
